I hope the summer brings promises of fun and relaxing with friends and family.
For starters, make a date to come and join in the fun of St Marys’ Church Summer Fete on Saturday 6th July, 2.00-4.30pm. It’s the best of an English summer … held on the Vicarage lawn with games, stalls, dog show and delicious cream teas. I can never decide my best bit: choosing the “Vicar’s Favourite” in the dog show or a lovely plate of scones, jam and cream. Let’s hope and pray that the sun shines – but if it’s rainy, join us in the church instead.
There are more furry creatures involved in our Animal Service in St Mary’s Beverston on Sunday 7th July at 11.15am. Our hymns will include All things bright and beautiful of course – and there’s always lots of giggling when the dogs join in with the singing. Then we have prayers and I go around to ask for God’s blessing on each of the cats, rabbits, dogs … Do come along and bring your beloved pet – the more variety, the merrier. And if you miss the service in Beverston, we have another Animal Service in St John’s in Shipton Moyne on Sunday 25th August at 11.15am.
Also in July, our Curate Rob and I will be working with the children at St Mary’s School during Wellbeing Week to launch our “Waterlily Project”. We’re using the image of a waterlily to help the children think about how, spiritually, we can grow and flourish. Have a look at the illustration by Rob’s talented wife, Frankie. The flower is “the me you see” but this is rooted in our hopes, our dreams, our beliefs, our faith and our values. And the water is all the things which help deepen our roots, and sustain our spiritual life … things like stillness and quiet, beautiful music or nature, or time to wonder and ask the big questions in life. We are so looking forward to sharing all this with our lovely St Mary’s children.
Also in St Mary’s School this month we are holding our sixth iSingPop CELEBRATE for all the family, on Sunday 21st July starting at 4pm in the school hall. Run by all the churches in Tetbury, our theme this month is being good neighbours. And there will be crafts, a Bible story, time for prayers, singing iSingPOP songs and tea for everyone. Do join us.
So I hope we can help make your summer fun and relaxing, one way or another. And that matters – after all, God rested on the seventh day, and the Bible tells us that God says that our R&R is holy and blessed.
So God bless you this summer.
With love and prayers, Poppy
