- Give thanks and pray for those who have been leading Little Fishes during the family service. May this valuable opportunity to share the Christian faith with our children become active again as the autumn term begins. Pray too for the ‘Heart and Soul’ service at St Marys on Sunday 7th September, that it may be a time when all those attending are drawn closer to God in Jesus through the more contemporary hymns and presentation.
- The Departed and those who mourn their loss including Michael Ball. We give thanks for their lives and pray for God’s comfort for their family and friends.
- Year’s Mind – Doreen Houghton (3.9) – “Year’s Mind” is to mark the first anniversary of a death – often a difficult time for family and friends.
- Local issues: Pray for our new Rector, the Revd. Sarah Heywood, as she takes up her role among the churches in the Benefice. May she feel welcome and know God’s guidance in her new responsibilities. May her family soon settle into their new surroundings and make friends locally.
- Pray also for the ‘Off the Rails’ event at the Goods Shed on Sunday 31st August, that it may be an enjoyable communal event, and give thanks for those who have organised it.
- National issues: Pray that a peaceful resolution may be found to the contentious issue of placing asylum seekers in hotels.
- World issues: Continue to pray about the situation in Gaza, that the food convoys may be allowed in and that these, and the hospitals, will be able to administer aid in safety to the millions of desperate people.
I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted and will execute justice for the needy. Ps.140 V12
