Welcome to the Parish Church of
St Mary the Virgin and St Mary Magdalen, Tetbury
There has been a Christian place of worship on the site of St Marys' since at least 681 AD. The present church was built following the demolition of the medieval church in 1777. The church today, with its elegant spire, is a focal point in the town. St Marys' is open every day for people to come and visit, sit quietly, or attend any of the regular services.
Public Worship during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Worship in our church buildings
With the churchwardens, this week we made the decision to suspend public worship in all our church buildings for the time being. This is in response to the gravity of the situation: the increased risk of transmission of Covid-19, and the Chief Medical Officer's request that we stay at home and avoid contact with others. This will of course be kept under review, as public worship in church buildings is allowed under current restrictions. We will keep you updated through the coming days.

Christian Aid Week this year will be like no other on record with no church; house to house; Tesco or street collections, so all in all, there will be a dramatic drop in the amount we send to Christian Aid by our Benefice during May. At the same time the need for resources to help…
Worship last Sunday was led by Revd. Poppy Hughes. You can download the readings for the service here. The link below is a recording of the service. With love and blessings, Poppy.
Now that’s a great quote from the life coach Tony Robbins. Or how about this: “It’s your road, and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.” One of the things I love about the Christian faith is that it is all about journeying, and pilgrimage. And…
Everybody is asked to share the Peace in ways which do not involve contact (that is, not shaking hands etc) Following updated advice, Holy Communion will now be distributed in one kind only (that is, the consecrated bread/wafer/host), with the priest alone taking the wine. We are asking everyone to receive the bread/wafer/host on the hand ONLY (not on the tongue)….
We are receiving an increasing number of requests regarding funerals at St Marys, burials at St Saviours, and erecting monuments to loved ones. We have added information answering many common questions to the Funerals page of the web site.
Love is in the air! There’s something new for Valentine’s at St Marys’ Church this year, with a special celebration of Love and Commitment at our 10am service on Sunday 16th February. Our theme is love in all its wonderful shapes and sizes – from marriage, friendships and parenting, to our commitment to caring for…
Mary and Joseph. A donkey, the angels, shepherds and the three kings. Bethlehem. A stable, a baby in the manger. King Herod. We all know the Christmas story, from school nativity plays and the television, and from the pictures on Christmas cards. We tell the story again each year, and we become so familiar with…
As we celebrate harvest this month, let’s cultivate thankful hearts! What do you think of this story? One Christmas a mother decided not to remind her children to write thank-you notes for the gifts they received. As a result, they never sent their grandmother acknowledgements of the generous cheques she had given. The next year,…
I hope the summer brings promises of fun and relaxing with friends and family. For starters, make a date to come and join in the fun of St Marys’ Church Summer Fete on Saturday 6th July, 2.00-4.30pm. It’s the best of an English summer … held on the Vicarage lawn with games, stalls, dog show…
